Day 6 - 16 Aug 2009

The shin pain was almost unbearable whenever I stood up so I spent all day on the couch. I pretty much feared having to get up because of the throbbing. I also had a really hard time getting comfortable because I was really sick of sitting on the couch. However, the uncomfortableness was better than the stand up shin pain!

I could still only get my knee to 110 degrees.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your experience in this blog. I just ACL reconstruction with LARS last Friday and am on day 6 post op now. I also have the shin pain, redness and burning like you have. I knew very little about the LARS technique and made the decision to have the surgery in just 1 day as the surgeon said it was best to do it while the injury was recent and your torn ACL was still a bit "alive". So here I am, hobbling around after 2 and 4 year old boys and trying to rest the leg as much as possible. I'll track my progress against your blog, but I can't bend my knee to more than about 70 degrees, so I've a long way to go. Hope you are enjoying your new knee - I've given up netball (and any other contact sport) since my injury, are you still playing?

  2. Look, keep at the bending as that will really speed the recovery up. The more you can do those quad exersises the quicker things will recover too!

If I could go back in time, i would have taken a full 2 weeks off work and kept my leg elevated as much as possible. Once that shin swelling calms down it will be smooth sailing!

As for netball, I just posted two more posts about that... I know you will be fine, so good luck!!!!

    Cheers,
